During the first years of 2000, Lagotronics developed the LagoLED® DOT, which was one of the first (CAN-bus)-controlled RGB LED lighting products. Originally, this product was designed for use in star cloths with individually controllable light points. In 2002, this technology was applied on cruise ship MS Westerdam owned by the Holland Amerika Lijn as decoration for one of the public spaces on the ship. 3000 LagoLED® DOTs were applied in a number of curved walls. The DOTs can individually change colours and therefore have a huge influence on the atmosphere of the room.
TV show ?Herrie aan de Horizon?, where master chef Herman den Blijker searches for new cooking talent from hundreds of amateur cooks, takes place on the MS Westerdam. In some shots, observant viewers will be able to recognise the LagoLED® DOT installation from Lagotronics BV. After more than seven years of daily use, the installation proofs to be maintenance free and still in good condition.
This is a fine example of the durability of LED lighting. Next to the small dimensions, energy efficiency and low heat production, durability is one of the biggest advantages of LED lighting.
